Floppy Drive Music

Every now and then, I start searching YouTube for some of my favorite songs played on various instruments. One instrument I only listen to every now and then is the floppy drive. Yes, a floppy drive is not an musical instrument. However, someone wrote a free (and open-source!) library that takes an Audrino micro-controller + an MIDI file and plays it on any number of floppy drives. The result: songs like the following. I leave you with these songs. Enjoy the walk (and for some not a walk at all, more like a “What is this”) down memory line with some classic songs. πŸ˜›

(You can not guess what this theme is. ;P)

(Yes, Star Wars just had to be present. :P)

And for good measure, one more song that you will find often when looking this stuff up:

  1. Yes haha I’ve seen these before, great stuff. πŸ™‚ I should research how to do something like this, I have like a hundred floppy drives. πŸ˜›

    1. https://github.com/SammyIAm/Moppy There you go. The majority of the videos use this software. Be sure to use the new version as linked in the readme (it is on another branch). I also saw a FAQ on getting started on doing this thing in the description of one of the videos I linked. I’ll see if I can find it again. πŸ˜‰
